This map shows playgrounds, water playgrounds, and changing tables around you — sourced from OpenStreetMap. The map uses OpenStreetMap data via the Overpass API. These tags are evaluated:

All points come from OpenStreetMap and are fetched live via the Overpass API. Something missing or wrong? Anyone can fix it directly on OpenStreetMap — the map will reflect the change shortly after.
Municipal playground directories usually stop at the city limit — and that is exactly the problem on a family day-trip. This map taps the open OpenStreetMap database, a cross-border source maintained by volunteers. The central tag is leisure=playground, complemented by min_age, max_age, fenced, shade, surface, wheelchair and playground-specific attributes such as playground=water or playground=splash_pad for water play. Changing tables are mapped via changing_table=yes, often with the additional changing_table:location tag (e.g. female_toilet, unisex_toilet, wheelchair_toilet) — incredibly useful when dad or grandparents are out and need to know whether the men's room actually has one.
We collapse all of these tags into three clear categories: regular playgrounds (teal), water playgrounds (green, because in summer they are gold) and changing tables (blue, as a separate POI for baby parents). The age filter respects existing min_age/max_age values; if neither is set we still show the playground, because a missing tag in OSM does not mean the playground is unsuitable. The same applies to fenced=yes and shade=yes: they count as bonus points, never as silent exclusion — unless you explicitly enable the filter checkboxes above the map.
Parents on a cargo bike or on foot benefit the most: location-based apps from toy brands or parenting platforms are typically national and ad-driven. Our map is ad-free, language-neutral and works in Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Milan or Madrid alike — as long as playgrounds are mapped in OSM there. Coverage is effectively complete across Central Europe; outside the EU it varies by region.

OSM data are crowdsourced — comprehensive in big cities, patchier in rural areas. A mapped playground is not necessarily well-maintained: rusty equipment, broken glass or closed sections are not part of the tag schema. Equally, fine-grained properties like "has swings", "slide height" or "clean toilet" cannot be reliably derived from OSM. Our shade filter relies on shade=yes and is only as good as the entries that mappers made on site. So treat the map as a pre-selection: it tells you where playgrounds EXIST; the final fit-for-purpose check is your eyes on site. For changing tables it also pays to read the opening_hours tag — changing tables inside restaurants or cafes are only usable while the venue is open.
